What business ?

I don't think many in USA has given the idea of starting a new business much thought, but I think there are some to be made.

I live in South Africa and many of the ideas making money locally might be applicable soon or already in the USA, mainly security.

Security

- Electric fences, really big.
- Burgular bars.
- Anything intrusion detecsion.
- Anytyhing intrusion deterrent.
- Alarming.

Many local companies have a radio alarm system reporting to a central monitoring facility. RF and GSM. Annuity income.

- Auto gates.
- Telemetry systems for alarming.

- Personal security for the rich.
- Cash transfer guarding.
- Security guard and education for said.

There will always be people able to support a lifestyle, even in Nigeria or Ghana. Time to look at local (USA) opportunities.

Somehow the spell-check is MIA, so please forgive.

Just to say that in every adversarial condition there might be opportunity, the way of the wise in Africa.

I don't know what the crime rate in South Africa (or the rest of Africa) is right now, but it's still relatively low in America. That may change, but until it does, most people here aren't thinking about turning their homes into a fortress. Even if they wanted to, few are in a spending mood right now. Currently the economy here is being driven by business spending, not consumer spending.

- In America, we sue the crap out of everyone. You would lose all of your assets the first time some kid or even a burgular was zapped by an electrric fence.
- There are already a large number of armored guard services for money transport, personal and business protection, etc.
- We also have a fair number of alarm installation and monitoring companies here already

This isn't a new concept here in the USA and the market is fairly well saturated. In most states, these jobs are highly regulated requiring extensive background checks and training. In VA, you have to have a criminal background check and approx 8 hours of training just to sell an electronic alarm system.

I work for a company that sells commercial security alarms, access control systems and video surveillance systems. I see a huge growth potential for video surveillance in the near future. This is for a multitude of reasons, including, security and theft prevention, but I see more "big brother" type activities like employee monitoring, jobsite and construction progress monitoring. Many employers want cameras to cover their rear ends, prevent paying falsified workers comp claims, prevent false customer injury claims, etc...
