Racist slurs are use to denigrate a person on the basis of race. You cannot have it that a particular insult when used against a white person is only an insult yet when used against another race it is racism. It is not... it is an insult, and as such is meant to be insulting. If the entire race was being refereed to as monkeys then you have racism... it is that simple. The term "porch monkey" may have been typically used as a racist slur but it does not make the term inherently racist. The racism comes from the context that the term is used in and the attitude toward all people of that ilk. Barring people from venues or social clubs on the basis of race is racism. Describing the entire race as, well as anything in particular, is racism. Make any broad judgment on the basis of race is racism... but that is where it ends.

To say that calling Bush a monkey is OK while its not OK to call Obama one is fundamentally wrong. Both these men should be equally open to the same criticism, however unfair, illogical or irrational it is.

The other thing is that Obama is a bitser... like me and no doubt most people reading here. He has a mixed race linage, why is it that one part of his lineage should determine his treatment over the other? Should his white part be insulted while his black part feels racially vilified? Do the same people who call Obama a monkey refer to Colin Powel as a monkey? (I would have like to see him as president, I always thought he was the smartest guy in that outfit!) If not how is it racially based? I refer to some footballers as apes for their behavior, they often earn the tag with their of field antics.... am I to be called a racist because not all of these guys are white? I don't discriminate at all!

Basically its either OK to call a prez a monkey or its not. There was a time when it was not... I think that is probably the better way to go, and I'm not calling anyone a monkey.
