Im passing on this, with silver at 25 bucks it's a no go and they are diluting the sht out of the reverse proofs making them more common.

A tad over $50 bucks melt silver, for almost triple. Think I'll pass too. This could be a good year to leave out all numismatics and just stack generic.

I know I'm in for a at least a set just because I'm that way. Still, if sentiment is as far down for everyone else as it seems to be with you guys then maybe it is worth buyin' a few extra to stash away for a rainy day just in case folks change their mind some day.

From a stacking perspective, these sets will be terrible. However if you don't mind selling on occasion then these sets may offer quite the opportunity. The 2011 sets were a known grand slam from the start due to the limited mintage, but the 2012 sets haven't really done that well excluding pcgs 70 sets. Given the lackluster performance of the 2012 sets, the declining spot/increasing premium, and overall ASE collector fatigue we may be looking at a perfect storm for these sets. The fact this set is going to feature a new coin makes it that much better IMO.

It will be interesting to compare and contrast sales of this set versus last year's set. Either way I'm putting in all my orders on day one and not on the last day like last time.

Best bang for your buck will be waiting until Silvertowne has them graded, and buy the PCGS ones. Need to be quick though, they won't last more than a week.

As it appears that the Mint plans on issuing a "special" SAE set every year, combined with the falling spot price, this is a no-go for me. Now, if the Mint was to revise the price before the release, then maybe.

Looks like they have done just that. Down from $149 to $139. It ain't much, but it's something.

Down another 20 FRNs would seal the deal for me, but for only a couple sets.

I'll probably buy a couple sets. For only selling a month, any guess on how many will be sold?

If silver stays below $25/oz I bet they'll sell 185-215K sets. If gold and silver rebound over the next month and move higher I bet the total ends up closer to 225-250K. The best indicator of sales will be the first week's total compared to last year. Of course even if it comes in much lower and stays lower we should expect to see a huge jump in the last week like last year. FWIW, I still anticipate a lower final number on the 2012 sets as many people cancelled theirs after waiting for weeks and weeks on backorder. Between my last day orders and friends I know we cancelled 30+ sets, but the final number hasn't been changed since the sell-out.

On a related note has anyone talked to Jordan (or anyone else) about obtaining last year's revised numbers? When I spoke to him in late January he made it clear he was trying to get updated figures, but he was at the mercy of the mint.

I remember the ticker final number was around 251k....it was revised 5 months later to around 224k after the returns were figured in

..poor QC by SF Mint resulting in many returns....West Point coins are usually of superior quality.

..announcement by the Mint of the S proof being available in another set resulting in cancellation of many orders...West Point set is "supposed" to have two unique coins

Spot price of silver during the SF set sales ranged from $26.75-28.25 about $5 over present spot (x 2 coins)..price of the 2013 set has been reduced by this amount...wash

I think the 2013 set will surpass the 2012 set by about 50k....nice set...unique coin (enhanced uncirc) and the popular RP...better quality

Hhhmmm, I guess my memory has failed me then because I thought that revision happened within weeks of the sell-out. If it was 5 months later then clearly it accounted for all the cancellations. Shame on me for being foggy on something like this :p ;)

My feeling is that between the lower spot price and the fact that the after market was relatively soft for last years offering we may see a slight down tick in sales. Then again, this a new 'first' for the mint in terms of production technique so I it's anyone's guess as to how they will sell.

I'll probably get just one just to hang onto. Why not a high relief? Everything the Perth Mint does in HR has been a home run.

I finished up placing a few orders and in the hour or so between the first and the last the order number advanced by over 7000. I think this is going to be a hot issue.

Shipping will not begin till mid to late June. My guess is that everyone will lay low for awhile before they start listing them. I wonder if the Mint is going to keep a daily sales tally like they did with the San Francisco set last year?

Why is the "Enhanced" SAE in the set, not classified as a proof coin? I've looked at various images of the enhanced coin and I'm still not sure if I like it or not. It somewhat reminds me of the colorized SAE's. Perhaps you have to see it in person to really appreciate it?

My guess is the grading serves will regard it as a specimen finish. Neither MS nor PR. In any case I'm not too optimistic about what the mint's recent behavior may portend for the series.

So true....the mint has now realized they have a cash cow, the ASE series. They can come up with many different "rarities'' to keep collectors interested. Rev proof, burnished, now enhanced, Different Mint Marks, UNC, Proof, Specimen, sets, individual. (Next stop a high relief?) Special Denver Mint issue?
If they do not list a low production limit on a particular issue, I would consider shying away.
The 2011's were a no brainer. The 2012's are losers other than the MS 70 (which the grading services control, thats another story).

I expect a good portion coming from first day sales. The lesson last year was that if you waited till near the end of the four week window you got your coins too late for first strike designation and after much of the market mania had passed. There was a real scrum at the mint in the first hour of availability yesterday - now you can pick up any amount with a few nearly instantaneous clicks of the mouse.

I put in for a few orders yesterday. The first one that got through has a projected ship date of 6/17. An hour later, when I had finished with my orders, the projected ship date had been bumped to 7/25. I will tell you that is they take this long to ship the product and the coins do not catch fire with the public we will see plenty of cancellations down the line.

With limited budget many might be saving ammo for the Rev Prf Buffalo.

Wonder how many the TV hucksters and Modern slab pushers purchased?

I would guess that most of the initial orders came from the coin vault and other TV show peddlers so they can get them in for grading to sell on the secondary market.
There are also many orders from the honest coin and bullion dealers to be graded and sold.
Wonder what graded SP 70 's will sell for?
