    I lost a bag of coins...Dammit!

LONDON (AP) — British officials are trying to trace the owner of a trove of gold coins worth a “life-changing” amount of money found stashed inside a piano.

A coroner investigating the find on Thursday urged anyone with information to come forward.

When the piano’s owners took it to be tuned last year in Shropshire, central England, it was found to contain a hoard of gold sovereigns minted between the mid-19th and early 20th centuries.

Investigators have determined that the piano was built in London in 1906 and sold to a pair of piano teachers in Saffron Walden, eastern England. They are seeking information on its ownership before 1983.

Anyone wanting to make a claim has until April 20, when coroner John Ellery will conclude his inquest.

If the gold’s owner or heirs cannot be traced, it will be declared treasure, and the piano’s current owners will reap the reward.

Officials have not disclosed how much the coins are worth. Peter Reavill, who assesses finds for the British Museum’s Portable Antiquities Scheme, said “it’s a hoard of objects which is potentially life-changing for somebody to receive.”

Looks like around 100 of 'em. So roughly $29,000.
Had it been 29k worth of silver they wouldn't have been able to fit it in the piano, or move said piano if they somehow did.

    Wait...
They transport a piano to get it tuned?
What's the point? It will be out of tune when it gets carried back home again.

That's $29,000.00 more than I have. Bet Irons doesn't even have that many. How many people do you think will try to claim them? They will come out of the woodwork.

We'll see, silver wins big, but you have to have timing (like 2002 to 2011) and sell when you know things are getting bubblicious.

Those are nice pictures, Ironman. I think I read "somewhere" that looking at pictures of gold sovereigns is really good for your health. It can lower your blood pressure and create wonderful feelings of wellbeing. I believe it's true.

Hell man nobody's crazy enough to buy 29k worth of silver. Might as well buy 29k worth of copper.
At least you can buff copper up to a Gold like luster.

I only have 1 sovereign. I figure it to be worth at least $1 million USD (maybe more).

You see, I bought it as pure speculation when Irons declared his life goal is to own every single sovereign in existence. That last one needed to complete his lifelong dream is gonna be a bass turd.:winks2:

The Court put the SWERVE on the people especially the Piano Repairman.

According to the article The LAW states 300 years old.
The oldest coin will not be 300 years old until 2147

By the court claiming them as TREASURE it effectively CANCELLED Out all the other 50 claimants which reduces Court time.

Nope, they got that covered with their 'laws'

    UK Treasure Act 1996

The act contains a number of definitions of "treasure", including prehistoric objects, coins that contain gold or silver and are at least 300 years old, or more recent valuable objects that have been deliberately hidden

    https://www.gov.uk/treasure (treasure act)
    https://finds.org.uk/treasure/advice/summary (treasure definitions)

I stand corrected. So much for those OLD speed-reading skills.
