I ordered two transmitters. I have a long driveway and want to place them strategically to distinguish the speed of things moving up the driveway. Two transmitters will work with one base, one beeps once and the second beeps twice. I will submit a report in a month how they worked.

Do you have deer on your place?
Is sensitivity adjustable to ignore critters smaller than a car?
Is the up to 1/2 mile determined by line of sight issues?

I have deer so I will expect false positives, that's another reason for getting two motion detectors. I won't have line of sight between the detectors and the base so I will let you know in the follow up report.

amazon had other models you bury that only detect large metals objects. I did not buy one (yet) so you're on your own.

    • Instantly alerts you when someone pulls into or out of your driveway
    • The outdoor electromagnetic sensor only detects vehicles; no false alarms due to animals, children, etc.
    • Easy-to-install Electromagnetic Sensor Wand is buried next to your driveway, and detects mass metal moving within a 3-12 ft. radius of the wand.
    • When a vehicle passes by the sensor, an outdoor transmitter communicates wirelessly to an internal base station up to 400 ft. away and sounds a pleasant chime
    • Ideal for home and business
    • Requires 2 AA batteries (Sold Separately)
    • Low battery indicator on both the Indoor receiver and transmitter
    • Backed by a 12 Month Mighty Mule Warranty and Technical Support

So my assessment is 100% positive. It has never failed to work while I've been home and a car has approached. It has been set off by deer but that's to be expected. I highly recommend this item and would purchase it again. The detector is about 400 feet from the base unit behind a hill (no visual line of sight).

You could always place Claymores with trip wires. No batteries needed.
