Also good for a laugh. Ya gotta love peeps who are into pity parties, self congratulatory me-me posts, people who want to lay guilt trips on others, etc, The list could go on and on.

Then again there are some who post some neat stuff.

    Guess it all depends.

Despite all the stupidity you see involving farcebook and all the obvious govspy crap associated with socialist media there are other profound effects that go undocumented yet are far more significant from a social point of view. The following is merely anecdotal, happening locally to me and among people I associate with because we share a similar interest.

For those who don't know or don't care I do pro audio so I associate with musicians at all levels from beginners to pros in all genres of music from bluegrass to rap to classical. Of course, still and by far the largest group remains rockers and blues. Many of these people I've worked with for decades.

I have a standing gig every Thursday at a local watering hole called an Open Jam or Open Mic. This particular one isn't really for no-talent hacks or even determined wannabes. Most of the participants are well established players and use this to debut or try out new material or new projects. It really is about the music and not the stroking of egos or the networking for one's next gig.

These musicians are their own "community" despite the fact that some come from up to 50 miles away to be and play here. Some come down from Michigan. Though I'm not on facebook many of these people are and, of course, they keep up with one another in the usual ways. and are generally quite supportive of one another.

Being people though, some just can't avoid being general screwups. That sort of thing is normally overlooked. However, there are certain things that are just not tolerated. As an example one dude hit his girlfriend. Not only did he get nabbed by the cops for being a phuktard but he has been, for lack of a better term, shunned by the musician community. This isn't a matter of simply ignoring the guy. He has been told, directly to his face, not online, not by text, not "heard it from a friend" but directly to his face to not bother coming around and he was was booted from the band he was in.

The above is not a "one off" incident. Another dude got off into some kinky sex, I'll spare you the details, but the girl got physically hurt. Dude got busted. Here's another one that got told directly to his face to not come around any more.

What is particularly interesting is that these phuktards are not shunned by just "our little gang" but throughout the entire local musician community. The little gang that meets on Thursday nights is not the only such activity in the area. Every night of the week save Monday has a similar event going somewhere in a roughly 6 county area and the phuktards just are not welcomed.

This idea of a self organizing collective which is also self regulating in a loose sort of way is neither new or unique as it is how tribes and other communities have gotten on without a "formal" or "authorized" government claiming the power and right of law and a monopoly on violence to enforce it's law. I know that there are other local "tribes" grouped or organized around other shared interests who also use "social force" as a tool for self regulation.

Anyway, it's good to see that this self regulation hasn't been lost amongst the flood of political correctness or the endless bloviating of sundry libtards, SJWs and other social diseases ruining the country.

I had a Facebook page for awhile, but shut it down a couple years ago. There's just something creepy about Facebook that I can't quite explain. Maybe it's the idea that you can be friends with everybody in the world. Anyway, I didn't like it and shut it down.

Well I can only tell my story and it ends with you can not have a copy of your mug shot.

I was hauled in for disorderly conduct, obstruction of justice, and illegal discharge of a firearm. (Sounds pretty scary don't it?) All charges dropped, but I got to help pay for the local bail bonds new car. Long story I won't go into here and now.

This was 20 + years ago. Damn I am old. I wanted to use my mug shot for my internet avitar.

This wouldn't help for a 20 + year old mug shot, but I know our county maintains a jail roster that anyone can look at on their web site with mug shots.

Snowden To The World: Stop Letting Facebook Control Your News

    by Tyler Durden
    Nov 18, 2016 8:11 AM

Submitted by Josie Wales via TheAntiMedia.org,

In an attempt to rationalize the fact that Donald Trump has been elected as the next president of the United States, a growing movement is lashing out against “fake news sites,” even labeling them responsible for the election results.

Earlier this week, a document “False, Misleading, Clickbait-y, and/or Satirical ‘News’ Sources” was uploaded to Facebook by a user named Melissa Zimdars. The document made the rounds on social media, adding fuel to the fake news fire. Despite the fact that Zimdars’ list ironically lacks proper citation, blatantly targets right-wing outlets, and includes perfectly legitimate sites for no apparent reason, the Los Angeles Times published the false, misleading, clickbait-y document, lending it an air of legitimacy.

The irony in the assistant professor’s project is that it mirrors everything she is warning others about. Although it is prefaced with a disclaimer, the document is being shared by “legitimate” news outlets as a legitimate report. Some of it is true and some of it is cited, but overall, it’s a poor resource to rely on for guidance on reputable news outlets. It almost makes one wonder if this young teacher is conducting her own social experiment to see how seriously people will take a Google document uploaded to Facebook.

Fake news sites are certainly problematic in a world where the majority of people get their news from social networks; a good portion of those people don’t even read articles before sharing them. Facebook and Google have responded to the hysteria by announcing their decision to ban what they deem to be fake news sites from their advertising platforms. This is a cause for concern for many reasons.

As Edward Snowden pointed out, “[t]o have one company that has enough power to reshape the way we think, I don’t think I need to describe how dangerous that is.” Snowden addressed the fake news issue in detail via Beambot at Fusion’s Real Future Fair on Tuesday.

“I don’t think many people need to have this explained to them, that when you type something into the Google search box, it’s Google that decides what you get back. When you go to your Facebook page, it’s Facebook that decides what news it is that you see on your page.

When you go to a platform like Twitter, or any of these, really, the voices that are heard are the ones that are selected and permitted by the corporation.”

He identifies the source of the problem as a lack of competition.

There seems to be no alternative to the larger services. Because of this network effect, because [of] the first mover advantage. When you get a Google or a Facebook or Twitter in place, they never seem to leave.”

His solution? Don’t rely on Facebook for your news. By banning websites from their platform, they are essentially telling users they aren’t intelligent enough to decide for themselves what is and is not news.

As Snowden put it,they’re creating more silence than they are creating more speech.”

My deplorable guess is she was fired for being a self worshiping pain in the ass?
    I could be wrong though.

When faceplant first came out my wife made me a page.

"I made you a facebook page!"

"Delete that shit right fecking meow."

"But everybody has a faceplant page, it's how people stay connected."

"If I want to find people from my past I'll just go to the bars on the west side of Grand Rapids. They are all still there."

"You can keep up with family and their children and their lives."

"Now that you mention it I do wonder how Mindy, Patti, Carla, Dawn, Stephanie, Linda, Tammy, Jo Ann and Shelley are doing nowadays."

Boom, fecking deleted without a trace.
I hear you cannot fully delete a page anymore. Years ago you still could.

A few years ago I was a part of a reality show for Discovery/TLC. The producer insisted that I get a Facebook page to help generate buzz. I reluctantly agreed and set about setting up a page. First thing I noticed when filling out the forms was a bunch of people waiting to "friend" me, apparently because several of the shows had already aired. Some distant family but mostly people I have never heard of. For some reason that didn't trigger my flight instincts.

After the account was set up, the next screen beckoned "You may know these people too". Then it occurred to me that they were rifling through my e-mail contact list. That was all I needed to see- Noped the hell right out of there and slammed my laptop shut. A few minutes later I returned and torched the account and my e-mail contact list for good measure. Haven't been back since.

    Bicycle helmets Zed.
Before the widespread use of bicycle helmets the stupid kids took themselves out before breeding age.

Now look around. They have not only grown up and bred many of them are in politics and their snowflake kids need safe spaces.
    Sad state of affairs.

Teen driver was broadcasting herself on Facebook Live when a tractor trailer smashed into her car killing the 18-year-old and a friend
    • Brooke Hughes, 18, and Chaniya Morrison-Toomey, 19, were killed on Interstate 380 in Pennsylvania early Tuesday
    • Hughes was live-streaming on Facebook when a semi slammed into the rear of her Suzuki Forenza, causing the car to burst into flames
    • On the video, which has since been taken down, Morrison-Toomey can be heard asking Hughes right before impact, 'Are you going live?'
    • The driver of the truck was unhurt and has not been charged in the deadly crash
    • A friend of Hughes and Morrison-Toomey said she had been in the car with them just hours earlier and asked Hughes to drop her off before the crash

I wonder how long it will take before Facebook makes it a crime to speak\write negatively of it...

Haven't we seen this playbook before?
