SNS 159 Part 2: Machining a Large Hydraulic Tube Nut
    Abom79

    Published on Mar 11, 2017
This week I have a pretty nice machining project to tackle. This is a steel nut that goes onto a telescoping cylinder tube. It screws onto the tube end and hold the seals and bronze packing nut.
I'll use some heavy wall mechanical tubing and machine this in the American Pacemaker lathe.
Turning, facing, boring, and threading. I also have a face groove to cut on one side for an o-ring.

    Enjoy!

The doctor has released me to go back to life in the shop, as I see feel comfortable with my foot after surgery and I hit the ground limping. In Shop Therapy Part One; We get right back at the Rutland lathe, aligning the tailstock and setting up the first project that will drop a few chips, explore some tool hoarding and share a couple projects we had worked on or been thinking about, during the time in the recliner. Feels good to be back at the shop and sharing once again! ;{)--------

Shop Therapy Part Two; still taking it slow but playing in the shop as the foot feels it can handle some time on it. Starting off John Saunders and I take a little time sharing the Fusion 360 project, the Cam process and the other items I’ll need to modify to run the project in the PlasmaCAM. Then we explore the skills gap in America, taking a minute to watch a small clip of the interview with Mike Rowe by Tucker Carlson on the local news station, which has created a change on how I’m listing the YouTube shop community on my channel feature page. I rehash the ratio method I used to align the tailstock for some who showed a question or two on it. A quick chick check, then we finish fitting up the new adaptor for the collet closing handle, with a pre fit and milling the finishing touches to put the project to bed.

This is my favorite bike so far...by far!
Thank you Lincoln for supporting this project
    Visit http://store.lincolnelectric.com

I had the idea to combine a handtruck with a bike a couple weeks ago and when i found a cheap handtruck on ebay this week, i decided to give it a try. the solution to replace the front wheel of the bike with one of the handtruck wheels solved ALL the problems i had trying to figure out the stearing system.

i can tell you it rides even better than it looks.
this bike will stay with me forever :)
not only for getting beer and drinks, i think it will be perfect to transport packages to the postoffice or getting new gas bottles and stuff like that. the coaster brake is plenty strong to stop the bike even with a case of beer on it.

hope you enjoy this as much as i do!

Make This Razor Sharp Scraper With Recycled Planer Blades

Read the build article for more details: http://www.ibuildit.ca/Workshop%20Pro...

This scraper can be used for a number of things, even smoothing wood in the same way that a card scraper works. With 4 blades from a single knife, it's definitely a very worthwhile build, since they will practically last forever.

    How to TIG Weld Aluminum
    weldingtipsandtricks

    Published on Mar 14, 2017
Visit my online store https://weldmongerstore.com/ For the best collection of videos on tig welding aluminum click here https://goo.gl/bxkORP This is the first in series of videos about how to tig weld aluminum.
My plan is to kick it off with this video and then let the comments dictate the direction I take from here.
The reason is what I think folks want to see, may not actually be what they want to see.
So comments and questions about how to tig weld aluminum will help.
There is a lot to talk about.
things like tungsten electrodes..type and size ( i like 2% lanthanated for everything and 3/32 takes care of most of my daily welding)
shielding gases ...argon is best to start but if you begin to specialize in thicker aluminum, it might make sense to use a blend of argon and helium...or use some of the newer blends like stargon AL from Praxair.

Mig Welding Cut and Etch Tests

    Published on Mar 7, 2017
See a detailed article along with several other mig welding videos at http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/m...
and visit my online store at https://weldmongerstore.com/ The Cut and Etch test aka Macro Etch test is often overlooked and underused. Its a destructive test so can be used on live parts but it provides valuable information on your mig welding technique and settings.
Cut with a zip disc, bandsaw, portaband, or whatever and then just smooth with a flap disc and some scotch brite pads and thats all there is to it.

Shop Therapy Part Three; still taking it slow but playing in the shop as the foot feels it can handle some time on it. We start out with things running surprisingly running true, and then get some copper parts made to start off the auto oiler system that complements the one push pump that Dennis Noland had shipped us last January. We did the turning, bending and soldering to getter done and then take a look at the project we put all the effort into the Rutland to attempt and use as a test.

SNS 160 Part 2: Aluminum Bronze MIG Welding, Turning & Polishing
    Abom79

    Published on Mar 18, 2017
As I continue on with the work on a telescopic cylinder repair, up next is some aluminum bronze mig welding on the wear rings on each of the tubes. These rings are what guides and centers each of the tubes inside each other and typically gets worn down throughout the life cycle of the cylinder. One way to repair them is to welding them up and machine them back to a tolerable spec.
Here I'm using the Millermatic 251 with aluminum bronze wire and argon shielding gas.
It's important to weld this stuff in a well ventilated area, like next to a large open door, or even outside if possible, and make sure to use a welding respirator too. I always use a fan next to me to "pull" the fumes away and outside.

This is Part 2 of a How to TIG Weld Aluminum series.
I asked for comments in part 1 and wow did I get a lot of comments.
    over 350 so far.
Questions about AC balance, AC frequency, tungsten electrodes, shielding gases, techniques for feeding wire, how to keep a tight arc without dipping in the puddle, and a lot more.
While I figure out the best way to answer as many questions as possible, I have to start by answering just a few of those questions about how to tig weld aluminum.

Also in the mix of Part 1 is going to be a reveal of the Newall digital readout, model DP500 12x30 mill package. I picked this up from KBC Tools and here is the direct link for the readouts. http://bit.ly/2mAzHEM

I also have a segment in here about indicating a pretty large piece of square stock in the lathe for machining. Near the end I show hand reaming a couple of holes that were just slightly out of alignment.

    Published on Mar 25, 2017
We continue on with our machining and reconditioning of the telescopic cylinder from our previous SNS. This episode I'm machining a couple of the bronze packing nuts, used to capture and compress the v-packing seals. I machine these our of some cast bronze tube stock. After the lathe work we go to the mill to machine some slots for spanner wrenches.

    Laura´s Mini Tabletop Workbench
    Laura Kampf

    Published on Mar 25, 2017
I needed a bench for fine woodworking but i didn´t want to dedicate the space to another fullsize bench
so i built this mini tabletop workbench - also great for smaller shops!

thank you ROCKLER for sponsoring this project-the vise with the built-in benchdog is awesome!
    visit them at www.rockler.com

i used maple, plum and (i think)mahogany for this mini bench.
the height is perfect and the weight is still light enough to set it up with ease or to take it with you on a job.

I got inspiration from this build here:

Ceiling Mounted Racks & Storage Tips
    WorkshopAddict

    Published on Mar 31, 2017
Finding new areas to store items can be easier with ceiling storage racks. The unused area by your ceiling allows for storage of totes, boxes and anything else that takes up valuable floor space in your garage or shop.

We explore the ideas on where to place ceiling storage racks and how much weight these storage units can handle. The installation options are endless depending on the area you mount them, so we leave the proper installation up to you. You can see how we mounted ours in the YouTube video.

Ceiling storage solutions are the way to go to save floor space.

Part 1 is going to have a cool new tool trade for the shop, and also some nice viewer mail. One of our new items for the shop is a TIG rod holder that you can mount on a wall and organize your tig welding rods using Rod Guard holders. Paul does really top notch fab work so be sure to visit his website and give him some support. Also in the mix will be a few short clips of a few machining ops from this past week.

So we get to see some American Pacemaker lathe work, the Kearns horizontal boring mill, and some welding with flux core.

    Laura´s Unrideable Beastbike
    Laura Kampf

    Published on Apr 2, 2017
oh man, this bike sure is a lot of fun but absolutely unrideable!
i wanted to build a "beerbench-bike" and it just didn´t work out the way i planned :)

it is impossible to keep the balance and also adding the wheel in the middle of course messed up the stearing completly! i just didn´t really think things through :)

i still like the project because i think it looks soooo badass!
also i learnt a lot from my mistakes :)
hope you still enjoy the video!
