I've been tracking this coin for a while now, and the price just keeps going higher. Of all the silver Kennedy half's, this has the lowest mintage(395,443) by quite some way. I've been tracking the NGC PF70 coins, and the price has almost tripled in under 12 months. Last March these coins were selling for $50 a piece, on eBay, and now they are selling upwards of $140. I managed to snag a few, but wish I'd snapped up a ton more. Also the availability of this coin has dropped too, there are very few left on eBay for sale.

I've no idea where this coin will finish up at, but I see it breaking $200 by the end of the year. I recon the collector base on the Kennedy's far exceeds the collect base for Silver Eagles. One to keep an eye on, especially if you can find one under $100.

Good one CC. It's always fascinating to me to see what coin generates a spark and takes off like that.

I don't bother trying to figure and buy beforehand because I would never get that lucky, but I can appreciate it just the same. :cheerful:

Irons, hold on to that lion coin I sent ya, only 100K minted, 1yr type. Price has held up pretty well, too.

Picked up 5 more a few weeks ago at ~$20/pop. Apmex hasn't had any in a LONG time. Cheapest one on ebay right now is $40+ship.

I don't part with silver I have gotten from friends brother Bemac.

I have what I call pet silver I have gotten over the years and that is always separate from trade silver.

I got a bar from 'Cubed a few years ago that would probably make poor Silver Art's knees shake. :cheerful:

I'm happy with prices for my Carson City GSA hoard going up. Don't know if " it all melts the same " holds true lately. Since the 2012 low Numi's have done better than melt see chart.

I remember us talking about it before a couple of years ago how numismatic prices peaked in 1990 ten years after gold peaked in 1980. Who knows maybe that repeats a little this time, oye vey.

It's funny how some coins will just pop from know where, while others are hyped for months, and don't do as well. I figured these could be a good buy, after the 2012 Silver proof set from the mint sold out fast, with a low mintage.

I wouldn't be a buyer at $140 either, be hard pushed to buy at $100. I got a few at $50, and some PCGS 69's for $35. I'll sit on them for the time being, see what happens.

I couldn't agree more. I've been to a bunch of coin shows, and you just don't see a lot of these. Dealers with tables full of Morgan dollars, tons of US silver coins, slabbed. But very little gold. I remember when I got my $20 Saint, only three dealers in the room had some, the guy I got mine from had two.

I bought 20 of the 2012-S Silver Proof sets. So if the Kennedy gets graded PF70 it is worth more that the set ?

Right now the NGC PF70s are brining about $140.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-S-SILVER-KENNEDY-HALF-DOLLAR-NGC-PF70-ULTRA-CAMEO-KENNEDY-LABEL-/201012878709?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2ecd4d1d75

The PCGS PR70s have exceeded $200

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/2012-S-Silver-Proof-Kennedy-Half-Dollar-PCGS-PR70DCAM-Key-Date-Must-Have-/181295745305?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2a36118919

Even if they grade 69, they'll still be worth about $100.

Generic pre 1933 gold is pretty darn cheap right now relative to the spot price of gold.

Any pre 1933 gold or just grade-able pre 1933 gold. I know a lot has been cleaned and sold closer to spot.....

I've been thinking about getting a set just to have them around....

My LCS just got in 3 unslabbed $20 double eagles, they are beautiful. I have been thinking about trading 20 francs for them.

He can sell $250 gold all day but the high dollar coins tend to hang around for weeks.

I'll get at least 1 depending on his price. 20 francs are trade coins for me. :s1:

EDIT: The 3 he has are Liberty's not saints. Newest is 1907 oldest is 1880 something.

One $20 Liberty is not bad either, especially if it's an S. They got fondle value.

What are the chances the 2013 Kennedy Silver half dollar has a similar or even lower mintage?

I think there's zero chance of it coming in lower. According to the mint website, there's about 540,000 already minted from the two silver proof sets. The second lowest mintage is the 2011 at 574,175. I think it's possible that even 10-20 years down the road, this could still be the lowest mintage at 395,443.

Passed on it, he wanted about a Ducat over melt as premium. Which actually isn't bad considering it was uncleaned and uncirculated.

If I decide I want to pay for a stamped image instead of metal I'll save up for it.

All things considered, that's not bad. New AGEs are made every year. That old stuff, well.

I agree - to my mind that is a bargain. There is a ton of history in those old coins. Still, I like the Irons perspective - it is a standard unto itself and worth trying to embrace.

In my experience, I've found better deals on pre-33 $20 coins at coin shows, both my Liberty and Saint were purchased at shows.
