Are you describing communist Cuba or "capitalist" America?

Perhaps if it were more people would be aware of how the term came to be, my friend. I noticed you still haven't had a single thing to say about the origination of the term and instead continue to insinuate that it's an American phenom, despite the overwhelming preponderance of evidence to the contrary.

That you think capitalism even existed in America in 2009 or today is the laughable charade. You call it "the American version of capitalism", and that's fine, but the bailouts were not capitalism.

WTF difference does it make where a word originated? That doesn't somehow make it "less wrong".

If a Roman Catholic priest explained the origin of the word pedophilia, would you feel any differently about diddling young boys? Do you believe the Catholic Church is a fine and morally upstanding institution because the word pedophilia originated in Greece?

The origin of a word is completely irrelevant to the evil of the action. FFS my friend, your arguments are horrifically bad.

It matters because you're attempting to attribute it to capitalism while attempting to claim it as evidence of...something. Dunno...maybe read the thread title...otherwise I can't help you to stay on point...friend.

Yeah the evil action of 200 years ago. Get over it already. Yeah I don't find your non-arguments the least bit compelling either, but you keep whipping the same dead horse again and again just the same. lol

I know it's tough to keep your eye on the ball, but you do realize that the colonists were European right?

Do you think the resources should be redistributed to the lower class?

Everyone else WAS doing it. Please do not try to rationalize slavery as an American invention. Nobody in this forum is a slave owner. Collective guilt for past events that living people had no control over is insane, and can be easily applied to various countries.

There are no pure capitalist or pure communist countries. However, you can compare the capitalist-leaning countries
with communist-leaning countries. For example, you can compare Chile to Venezuela. So, the ideas do in fact matter a great deal, even if not applied perfectly.

Area51, do you agree that taxes should be lower for everyone, rich and poor alike?

    I'd say it's both.

Consider the corporate lobbyist making donations to politicians; then consider the taxes government collects from everyone and everything. Politicians love tax revenue and they love to spend it on their cronies.

If a politician wants to get cozy with the cops and judges, just up the budget for police and give the judges a raise... then raise taxes on whatever industry your opponents support.

I've never attributed slavery to capitalism. You've fabricated that, my friend.

I've certainly said that America is not a capitalist society today, nor was it one 250 years ago. Which is why I refer to "American capitalism" with quotation marks.

You may not realize it, but America has always been much closer to communism than capitalism.

A small group of elites ruled the country and the economy in the 1700s just as they do today. Being enslaved by debt and toiling away in an office cubicle is not much different than being enslaved by chains and toiling away on a plantation.

Have I? Sorry, I thought this was your post:
Guess I was mistaken and your account was hacked. Oh wait, now it's not capitalism...it's "American capitalism". Well that changes everything then.

There was Allodial title to land in America. There was honest money. There was personal responsibility. It wasn't always the crumbling nanny state craphole that it is rapidly becoming. If your contention is that America has always been as it is today...then yeah I disagree. I've watched it change dramatically with my own eyes just during my own half century on this planet.

I quit reading about, about the time the author used the words "Its about the children." So, who cares about kimmel or his child? And, why did kimmel let his offspring get borned this way? Stuupid is as stuupid does and kimmel sure done did it.

Absolutely and unequivocally, 100% yes. Income inequality is the surest way to collapse a society.

The average American CEO earns more than 300 times what the average American worker earns. It's a travesty that something so obscene is even permitted.

I'd challenge any member of this forum to try and justify how and why the CEO of their company is deserving of a salary 300 times greater than their own.

Especially when so many CEOs are totally incompetent and run their companies into the ground. And that doesn't even include the CEOs who are outright criminals defrauding everyone associated with the company.

    Absolutely and unequivocally, 100% no.

You cannot even consider reducing taxes with the level of government debt and the massive budget shortfalls.

I'm extremely adamant that no government should ever run a budget deficit. Then again, I'm just as resolute that no government should be wasting half a trillion dollars of taxpayer money on half-assed little made-for-television "wars" and guarding opium fields.

Any budget overages should be offset by an increase in taxes to keep it balanced. Only when there's a budget surplus should taxes be reduced.

And even with a surplus, I'd advocate the excess should be devoted to acquiring natural resources and/or building infrastructure before considering any tax cuts.

K buddy you're on. My answer: BECAUSE THEY CAN. There fight it, choke on it and swirl it all around but the fact is they do it because they can and that is why it happens.

My "contention" is that America has always had a small group of elites making insane amounts of wealth off the backs of the indentured.

You disagree that JP Morgan was any less of a profiteering fraudster than the Jamie Dimon character that's the CEO of his company is?

If so, I'd suggest you do some reading to educate yourself as to what a deadbeat criminal John Pisspot Morgan was.

Why should government tell a business that they are paying someone too much?

Where in the constitution does the government get the authority to do such a thing?

Pisspot's saving grace was he got his pimpled ass on the company board he lent money too. He was not a vision-aire at all, if he was he never would have backed out of Nicola Tesla. Just some ambient pos.

You may call it a capitalist oligarchy, but I would call it fascism.

Either way, it is pseudo-private businesses colluding with and bribing bloat.gov; privatizing the profits, and socializing the losses.

Tesla is an excellent example of this (not the genius, but the megacorp).

Are you free if any government can decide how much of your pay you will be allowed to keep?
If you think Gov has a right to tax your pay then what is the limit? 100% is the correct answer there. In fact it could even be argued that more than 100% is the limit.
You go to work all week and the gov takes it all and says you owe them 10% more. When your savings and 401K are wiped out then you start selling off any and all assets. It wouldn't be popular but under the Gov interpretation of the law they can have it all.

Bottom line is the system is broken and has been for a long time. Everyone arguing over higher or lower taxes or what corps should and shouldn't be allowed to do. IMO it deflects from the real issue which is should the Gov even be taking money from my paycheck in the first place.

    Speaking of insanity:

I currently work as a W-2 wage slave while simultaneously forking over 40% of my pay in order to pay, among other ridiculous things, reparations to others who lay claim to being the progeny of slaves from Africa.

Who will pay the reparations for my slavery?

And that's the main reason America is on the verge of collapse.

I could overpower the average woman walking down the street and rape her on the sidewalk "because I can".

I could smash into a senior citizens house and knock the old man over then ransack his house "because I can".

Once everyone starts applying the "because they can" mentality, things will really get interesting.

    LMAO

Did you actually just compare a board of execs voting to pay a CEO handsomely for their job to rape, B&E, and assault? Pardon, but how the eff do you know how much value said CEO brings to a corporation? How would you know how much they're "worth" to their company? ...and perhaps more importantly, how is it any of your business?

Where's the crime in the former?

You see people with more $$$ than you and cry wolf. Somehow you seem to think government can and should steal from those evil rich people and re-distribute it to those poor people and that will fix everything. It won't.

    One big gluttonous circle jerk.

Any board member who would agree to waste tens of millions on proven failures like Bobby Nardeli, Carly Fiorina or Ed Lampert should be institutionalized immediately.

If you think a CEO or all CEO's are making to much money then dont do business with that company pretty simple.

Kinda like, If everyone turned off the TV then the corps and Gov lose control.
Not happy that apple is making so much money, don't do business with them and spread the word to others.

At the end of the day I think a very small % of people dont want to be controlled. The rest need someone to tell them what to do and how to do it. Why else do we get so many sheep?

I hope you are an honest person who is willing to learn, because you are wrong. Income equality will collapse a society. Take a good hard look at what happens when you have a government enforcing income equality.

    lol Blow me, friend.

I despise the shrubs, but you're over here yammering poetic about how you know better than everyone else how to spend their resources. You clearly hate freedom when people use it in a way you don't approve. Marx would be proud of you.

BTW the "they hate our freedom" drivel to which you refer was utilized to justify perpetual global warfare, which I've been openly critical of. It wasn't directly tied to the context of this thread, but clearly your mind wanders and latches on to anything you dislike about America or American history...regardless of relevance.
