Going to be interesting to follow this and see how everything plays out.

'No other project would have such a positive impact on our inmates': Massachusetts sheriff proposes using US prisoners to build Trump's wall
    • Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson made the proposal on Wednesday
    • He said the project to build the wall would have a 'positive impact' on inmates
    • An attorney for American Civil Liberties Union in Massachusetts said Hodgson's proposal 'is perverse, it's inhumane and very likely unconstitutional'

Trump wants the US taxpayer, NOT Mexico to pay for the wall: House Rep. says Congress could foot the bill for the President-elect's border plans in dramatic pledge reversal
    • Trump transition team has talked about using federal taxes to pay for wall
    • House GOP policy committee chairman Luke Messer said it's being considered
    • That's a total U-turn on one of Trump's most famous campaign pledges
    • They may use Congress to fund an existing 2006 law in an April spending bill
    • Trump had previously threatened to skim cash off money transfers to Mexico
    • But said at the time he would drop that plan if Mexico paid $5-10b to the USA
    • A wall could cost up to $14b just to build, not including maintenance
    • Nothing has been decided yet, insiders claim

That fence isn't going to stop anything, they'll dig under it, climb over it, drive thru it. at a cost of 15 billion, the govs never done anything on budgit, it'll cost double, triple that and still won't work. Amazing that the gov gets dumber every day!

I don't know about that. I believe Taez may be right....................

There are some countries on the planet where illegally crossing a border isn't looked upon kindly and could be very hazardous not only to one's freedom but also to their health. I'm pretty sure that the same countries don't have too many guests overstaying their visas either.

But hey.....................who knows? Only time will tell.

The invisible wall: Portions of Trump's 'big and beautiful' barrier between the US and Mexico might use electronic surveillance methods instead of physical borders
    • Trump's planned border wall between US and Mexico might not be visible
    • Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly said the wall could use 'technological sensors' in many areas
    • Trump previously said he'd build 'big, beautiful wall' and make Mexico pay for it
    • Much of the 2,000-mile border already has mixture of physical and virtual walls

I read somewhere that the new POTUS has a great deal of construction experience, and that he is well-known for completing projects ahead of time and under budget.

Sadly, all this is true. In the best-case-scenario, a fully contiguous wall will only slow down people determined to enter the US.

If the entire 2k-mile-long border is fenced and patrolled by properly equipped Border Patrol agents, a wall could be an effective to slow down the alien invasion. But to pay to have a Border Patrol agent on guard 24/7 every 300 yards ... the cost would be.... (doing the math)...

    $.96 TRILLION/Year

    Mexico
Mexico doesn't have the money to pay for 6 months of what is necessary to protect the US/Mexico border.

Border guards are known to take bribes, everything from sex & money to drugs. The wall doesn't accept bribes.

Mexico has a robust economy, they can pay, at least until we bring back our manufacturing !
The economy of Mexico is the 15th largest in the world in nominal terms and the 11th largest by purchasing power parity, according to the International Monetary Fund

I'd imagine with drones and other equipment, and if we accepted the fact that we can not stop 100% of the people trying to get in this country that the cost would be lower.

So we can't stop 100% of the people. Who has the latest figures on numbers of illegals per day?

Let's say 1200 per day along the full length of the border. So let's say the wall drops that down to 1% - 12 illegals per day. I could live with that. Let's say that 3% of that gets in per day - 36 per day. Yeah, I could live with that. So, let's bump it up to 5% - 60 illegals per day. Obviously time to improve the wall. Any way you look at it, it's still far better than 360,000 per year at 1200 per day. The wall trims a flood down to a trickle.

For added fun, make it a part of the new immigration bill that NO more than 5% of one's annual income can be sent to Mexico per year AND for every illegal caught crossing the border will reduce the quantity of allowed legal crossings by 2 persons per year... and the amount of allotted green cards from Mexico and all countries south of the US border reduced by 5 persons per year for each illegal caught..

Of course, the actual numbers and percentages can be jiggered in order to achieve the necessary costs to Mexico and Mexicans and South Americans.

I have mixed feelings on the wall.

First, if it's ok for Mexico to build a wall on their Southern border, it seems a bit hypocritical for Hispanics to complain about us having one too.
American wall = racisim, but their wall = ......good business?

Second, if it's true that most illegal aliens have simply overstayed their visas, a wall is only going to hinder the smaller percentage that run the border.
...and the answer to this is for the gov to stop letting in more than they can keep track of.

Trump's border wall might not be done until the end of 2020 and could cost $21.6 BILLION – nearly twice what he claimed during campaign
    • Trump's 'wall' could actually be a series of wall segments and fences
    • Homeland Security report leaked to Reuters shows a potential $21.6 billion cost
    • The president estimated a $12 billion price tag during his campaign
    • Trump has ordered the start of construction and said Thursday that designs are already underway
    • But the DHS report says building the wall could take until the end of 2020

100's of millions of dollars are sent via Western Union from illegals working in the US to their relatives in Mexico yearly. A 2% fee on these transfers would pay for the wall in short order. I expect to see such a fee soon.

How does 2% of "100's of millions" even come close to $12billion dollars? To get that much with a 2% tax would require that they be sending in excess of $600billion back to Mexico.
...and I really don't think they are sending quite that much back to Mexico.

    It's a good start.

At my old job I used to handle western union transactions. I'd say an 8th of the transactions were legal Mexicans sending money back home. I live in NY so I imagine the closer you get to the border the more Mexicans are sending money back, legal or illegal.

Maybe, but it amounts to a drop in a bucket. If a wall truly is important to us, we should just pay for ourselves.

12 billion is not a sealed in stone price tag. If 2% is not enough, that too is not sealed in stone. Heck make it 25%!

We could just bring home all of our troops and station them on the borders (including Canada and the oceans) . On slow days they could lay bricks.

Trump takes first step to building the wall by requesting bids from contractors - and it's 'way, way, way ahead of schedule'
    • Trump Administration has requested proposals from contractors and will begin to accept them next month
    • US Customs and Border Protection said the best designs will be selected by March 20th and they will award contracts by April
    • Republican leaders have estimated the project will cost $12-$15billion
    • But US Department of Homeland Security internal report estimates it'll cost $21bn

How about a grenade launcher that fires water bottles?

When the bottle hits the interloper up-side the head, he will be dazed and stinging, but grateful to have some hydration for his return hike.

Okay, that is a good point and may be true.
Huh?! Where does this come from?! I am prepared to defend MY land. And I will gladly provide monetary assistance to those who need help defending their border properties. I have given to many good causes.

Border plans are hitting a wall: Trump 'has only found $20million to build new frontier defense which will cost billions'
    • The immediate start on construction of the wall was promised by Donald Trump
    • Initially he said Mexico would pay for the enormous wall on the countries' border
    • But he then backtracked saying money will come from White House resources
    • Now a report says only $20million can be used for the multi-billion dollar project
