About American Gold

One of the things most investors like to see when they decide on what company to invest in is information about the company in question. This includes a robust explanation of who they are, what their benefits are, what their competitive advantage is, and an explanation of their overall value.

American Gold Exchange Review - Logo

Thankfully, American gold has this and more. It has an extensive "About Us" page that lists who they are, why you should do business with them, and how long they have been around. The website notes that they were founded by Dana Samuelson in 1998. Samuelson, the President of the American Gold Exchange, has been involved in this field since 1980.

Other information listed includes a variety of policies, including information about internal guarantees and return procedures. This makes it much easier for individuals to do business with the company.

Services Offered

If you are looking to purchase precious metals, you are in luck: American Gold Exchange has an extremely robust array of items you can buy. This includes gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. You can click on each coin and get a huge amount of information on it, including history, pricing, specifications, and more.

American Gold Exchange Review - Services Offered

Indeed, American Gold Exchange does a great job of making sure that prospective buyers are as informed as possible about the product that they may be buying. Furthermore, you can complete all purchases online - something that is not always the case for precious metal vendors.

However, that's not all for this website. You can also use American Gold Exchange to find "Hot Deals," featuring discounted items and other extremely rare coins that are not normally for sale. You can also find ancient coins that are extremely difficult to find.

American Gold Exchange is also at least somewhat involved in the process of helping customers open a precious metal IRA. They offer an easy three-step process that enables customers to do so:

Open a precious metal IRA with one of four custodians listed on their webpage.

Fund the new IRA account.

Begin to purchase allowable precious metals from American Gold Exchange. The website then lists a series of precious metals that is and that are not allowed.

Finally, American Gold Exchange also allows you to sell your coins. This is not something always offered by precious metal vendors, and the website goes out of its way to note that it will potentially buy any precious metals you have for sale - regardless of whether or not you purchased those metals from American Gold Exchange in the first place.

Again, this is somewhat rare in the precious metal world. The website then lays out a three-step process that explains exactly how you can sell your precious metals to the company.

Resources Offered

One of the things that distinguishes a precious metal vendor from its competition is whether or not they offer educational resources. Such resources demonstrate a vendor's care for their customer.

They also ensure that customers know what they are doing before making purchases. Fortunately, American Gold Exchange does an excellent job of creating informed and educated consumers.

American Gold Exchange Review - Resources Offered

American Gold Exchange offers an array of news updates and charts, allowing potential buyers to see what they are buying and what the potential pros and cons are. They also offer a commentary blog that gives additional insights into the precious metal market.

Unfortunately, this blog is not often updated: As of this writing, the last update was three months ago, and while it is highly in-depth and comes with a video explainer, it is now woefully out of date.

There is other educational information on this section of the website, including a "definition of value" section, as well as more explainers about what certified coins are. Finally, there is a podcast section that links to other podcasts that deal with precious metals.

However, again, this section is a bit out of date: There are only two podcasts listed for 2023, and the last one was from at least two and a half months ago.

Messaging

Unlike other websites, American Gold Exchange has no overt political undertones. Its website content is relatively straightforward: It simply offers information and a chance for users to find out about how they can invest in precious metals.

This makes life much more convenient for prospective investors, as they don't have to shift through any hyperbolic claims about an imminent collapse of the economy.

Furthermore, unlike competitors, American Gold Exchange does not feature any celebrity endorsements. To be clear, this is not a bad thing. Instead, it relies on its qualifications, inventory, and reputation to inform prospective buyers about the potential benefits of doing business with them.

This can also be seen in the professional organizations to which American Gold Exchange belongs. The company lists an array of organizations at the bottom of its website, including the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, ICTA, and more.

While membership in organizations is not necessarily a guarantee of anything, it does at least show that American Gold Exchange is not a fly-by-night organization and does participate in professional organizations.

Contacting the company

Any business must make it easy to connect with them for purposes of opening a new account or customer service. Fortunately, this is the case with American Gold Exchange. They have a phone number, email address, fax, and online form.

The only item missing here is a chatbot, something that more modern websites have. Unfortunately, given the lack of modernization on the American Gold Exchange's website, its absence is not surprising.

Our Rating

Advantages

The advantages of the American Gold Exchange are extensive, and there are many positives about doing business with this company.

First and foremost: They offer a vast array of services. Their inventory is large, details, and very comprehensive. So is the information that they give on their website. Even a brief look at American Gold Exchange's website reveals that the company offers much more than most do.

If you are interested in more unique or niche services - or want to find rare coins - you may very well be able to find them with American Gold Exchange.

The educational material listed on the website is also very positive. There is a ton of basic information on certified coins, how to define value, various mintages, and more. This can help individuals easily become much more informed when they make purchases.

As noted above, the information on the website is presented in a relatively straightforward way. There are no fancy graphics, no celebrity endorsement, and no massive, overt sales pitches. Instead, American Gold Exchange allows its reputation, services, and overall content to drive home why you should do business with them.

Disadvantages

It is worth noting that the website for American Gold is much older and appears dated. It is not quite as easy to navigate as some competitors' websites, although this issue is at least somewhat ameliorated by the fact that the mobile website is so robust.

The dated nature of the website is also demonstrated in the way that much of the content is listed. While the website has a vast array of content, much of it - like its commentary and podcasts - is out of date. If you are just trying to find a precious metal vendor, you want to make sure that the information they list is current and that American Gold Exchange isn't meeting this mark.

Other Reviews

As always, the insights from other consumers can be extremely helpful in allowing other individuals to determine if a business is worth their limited time and money. As a well-established brand, American Gold Exchange has an extensive list of reviews from many customers, and they have a page on their website that they use to highlight customer reviews.

Customers have left the following reviews on other websites about American Gold Exchange:

  • Google: 4.8 out of 5 stars, 58 reviews
  • Yelp: 3.5 out of 5 stars, five reviews
  • Trustpilot: 5 out of 5 stars, 2,708 reviews (highest rating we have ever seen on Trustpilot!)
  • Better Business Bureau: 4.5 out of 5 stars, two reviews. A+ rating and fully accredited business with no complaints against them in the past year.
American Gold Exchange Review - Other Reviews

These reviews, as you can see, are very, very high. Customers cited the patience that American shows with newer investors and specifically noted how friendly and knowledgeable the staff was.

In the rare instance where problems were raised, a representative from the company would respond to the concern, usually attempting to address or ameliorate it. Staff was also noted to give recommendations without seeming as if they were pressuring individuals to make any purchase.

Verdict

Final Verdict

There's no question about it: American Gold Exchange does well. They have robust information, a wide array of inventory, and a vast knowledge of sales. They also leave their customers happy and informed.

While there are some minor negatives, they are easily drowned out by any positives. As such, while we think American Gold Exchange is an acceptable business, we know there are much better options for precious metals investors.
