After voting to remove mpls police, city council members spend tens of thousands for their own security.

...and how many of us would be surprised to find out that they own a stake in the private security company or companies they utilize? While I'm no fan of municipal police forces as they exist currently, this is going to harm inner city poor people more than anyone else.

Does their security detail have "assault" weapons?
Do they officially oppose "assault" weapons?
(Probably "yes" to both.)

The cure for this kind of mental insanity includes pitchforks and torches followed by hot tar and feathers. The people need to invoke them if they are to be effective against corrupt politicians

The decision to defund the police is more complex than it first appears.

Among the reasons may be the cities' need to get out from under the obscene pension programs that have gotten out of hand with outrageous benefits. If city councils tried to reduce pension benefits, the citizens would fight them tooth and nail--but it they act to defund the police, the citizens support the effort. Just sayin'.

Plus the dingbats in charge do this anyway by cutting city services so that they can maintain contractual pension payments to retired city workers on sweetheart deals. Imagine living in downtown Detroit, MI paying their ridiculous property taxes and getting next to nothing in exchange, save the recognition that you're supporting former city workers now receiving cushy pension checks. Gee, that's going to come in real handy when one dials 911 and is told there are no cops serving your area.

it kinda sucks knowing we're paying for public employees retirement, which will be better than most of ours
