Uvalde shooting: Video shows gunman enter school and opening fire, police response

'Enough': Biden calls for sweeping gun control agenda in wake of Uvalde massacre

Security footage of law enforcement's response to the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas, in May, has been released.

The Austin American-Statesman obtained the video of inside the elementary school when the shooter burst into the building and opened fire into a classroom, officers responding to the scene, as well as footage showing how authorities responded to the situation.

SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE OF UVALDE SCHOOL SHOOTING COULD COME AS EARLY AS SUNDAY
The outlet published a roughly four-minute-long, edited version of the footage. Nineteen schoolchildren and two adults were killed during the shooting. The gunman was also killed by authorities.

The publication of the footage by the Austin American-Statesman could increase pressure on officials to release the entire footage to the public, something that has been subject to political debate. The published footage shows a compilation of different camera angles of the shooting. It shows the gunman entering the school and responding officers arriving on the scene accompanied by time stamps showing when those events took place.

Warning: This video may be disturbing to some viewers:

In the published footage, adults could be heard frantically yelling at students to "get in your rooms" as gunfire was heard in the background. The gunman then entered the school wielding an AR-15-style rifle, as seen in both exterior and interior footage of the building.

Shortly after the gunman turned a corner inside the school, a student who has been blurred out, comes down the hall and watches the gunman march down the hallway at about 11:33 a.m., which is shown at the 1:10 mark in the published footage. Suddenly gunfire is heard and the student runs away.

The gunman headed toward the adjoining classrooms 111 and 112, where he would fire off nearly 100 rounds of ammunition for about two minutes, according to police. Around 11:36 a.m., responding officers are seen running into the school. They slow down as they near the adjoining classrooms, where some are seen crouching down outside. Others stand further back down the hallway as the gunman continues to unleash fire.

At 11:37 a.m., loud shots are heard and the officers crouched near the classroom are seen retreating back down the hallway. About 20 minutes later, more armored officers arrive with ballistic shields and other heavy gear. Officers are shown waiting there until 12:21 p.m. when they move down toward the classroom again. An officer can be seen squirting hand sanitzer from a dispenser mounted to the wall and rubbing his hand together at around 12:30 p.m. There was also a fist-bump between two camoflauge-wearing officers.

At 12:50 p.m., a very loud exchange of gunfire is heard — this is around the time authorities say law enforcement killed the gunman. This takes place around the 3:30 mark in the footage.

Local law enforcement has faced a firestorm for the response to the tragic shooting spree. As detailed by officials and now shown in the surveillance footage, officers waited nearly an hour before breaching the classroom. At the center of the controversy is Uvalde school district police Chief Pete Arredondo, who has faced the brunt of the criticism for the delayed police response. He was later sworn into the City Council, before resigning in early July amid controversy over his oversight of the shooting response.

A bevy of politicians including Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) and Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin have advocated for the release of the security footage showing what transpired between the nearly 77-minutes that transpired between when the gunman entered the school and law enforcement killed him.

State Rep. Dustin Burrows (R), the chairman of a special Texas House committee investigating the shooting, has also advocated for its release. Initially, he indicated on Monday that the Texas Department of Public Safety reached an agreement with the Uvalde Mayor's office to disclose the footage, but the department later disputed that to ABC News. Still, he said he intends to release the footage, "regardless of any agreement."

On Tuesday, Burrows tweeted that his panel plans to hold a meeting Sunday and provide members of the community a chance to see security footage of the hallway and discuss the committee's preliminary report. He said that both would be released to the public "very soon thereafter." He also stressed that members of the community should see the footage before it is released to the general public.

"We feel strongly that members of the Uvalde community should have the opportunity to see the video and hear from us before they are made public," he added in a tweet.

It gets much worse........

They were kind enough to edit out the audio of the children screaming

‘Absolutely horrifying’ body cam and security camera footage from Uvalde school shooting lays out the timeline

Everyone is generally in agreement that the police dropped the ball in the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Last we’d heard, an Uvalde police officer had the shooter in his sights but waited for permission from his supervisor to take the shot.
Now the Austin Statesman and KVUE have stitched together body cam footage and security camera footage to lay out a timeline of the shooting, and as with every other revelation, it just makes the whole thing more infuriating.

They were kind enough to edit out the audio of the children screaming, but it’s still chilling to watch:

I didn't think it was chilling because there wasn't any video of the kids or actual shootings. What is was to me was infuriating. If this has been arresting a January 6 bystander or a Trump aide, they would have been breaking down the door within seconds.

This whole situation brings into question the wording that most police departments use as their motto. That is "Protect and Serve". It sort of rings hollow. There was court hearing that summarized police response after a woman was killed by her husband after she obtained from a northern court (Ohio I believe). Anyway, after the death of this woman, the woman's children sued local police department and the court came away with a verdict the police only had use a best effort approach in protecting a citizen even if the protectee was killed through a best effort approach.

There is no way that any sensible and reasonable individual could see this video and come away with the understanding that these law enforcement "professional" law enforcement individuals came anywhere near the concept of best effort in protecting the children and their community.

They should all resign and go into dog catching. They are a disgrace. They argue that things and not always what they seem. That video sure seems to reflect that things are the way it shows.

This was not their finest hour. They definitely did not do their best.

Perhaps they were told to stand down?

That is a given.

Remember Sandy Hook aerial photos during stand off/shooting?
Not an ambulance in sight for all the wounded and dead.
Yet... so many.... they say.

Distraction distraction distraction.
No worries, you pay taxes for it in a free country.
We all do.
Well, those who do or did work anyway.

There are a lot of questions that need to be answered.

Who had command of the situation?

Why did the different departments allow a FAILED command presence to limit their response?

Was there a failure in training?

Talked to a buddy of mine that is at a medium sized department here in Minnesota, he told me that if there was active shooting they are trained to go towards the shooting and stop the threat. He has seen some of the video from this fiasco, his response and I quote, "WTF were they thinking?"

Cowardice and lack of training are not the same — THERE IS NO EXCUSE

They are supposedly releasing an extensive report on the shooting today. Can anyone find a link to it? It's expected to be about 100 pgs.

"high-speed chases have been a daily event in the Uvalde area, causing Uvalde CISD schools to be secured or locked down frequently, with 47 “secure” or “lockdown” events happening since late February 2022, and approximately 90% of those being attributed to bailouts.60 Uvalde CISD parents became so concerned about the number of bailouts occurring near the elementary-school campuses that they offered to hire off-duty police to supplement the Uvalde CISD police presence.61"

77-Page Report Details ‘Systemic’ Law Enforcement Failures in Uvalde School Mass Shooting

77-Page Report Details ‘Systemic’ Law Enforcement Failures in Uvalde School Mass Shooting

A 77-page report released by the Texas state House of Representatives said there were systemic failures on behalf of the some 400 enforcement officers who responded to the May 24 mass shooting at a school in Uvalde.

“There is no one to whom we can attribute malice or ill motives. Instead, we found systemic failures and egregious poor decision making,” the report said, noting “shortcomings and failures of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District [CISD] and of various agencies and officers of law enforcement” and “an overall lackadaisical approach.”

Those claims appear to coincide with statements made by top Texas officials days after the shootings. Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw said on May 27 that it was the “wrong decision” not to engage with the shooter, Salvador Ramos.

Meanwhile, surveillance footage from Robb Elementary School released on July 12 shows officers waiting around more than 45 minutes before several officers approached the classroom where Ramos had entered. The officers didn’t enter. It took more than 75 minutes for law enforcement to kill Ramos, 18, after he entered the building.

The report said that law enforcement failed to quickly confront the suspect and instead retreated to safety.

“In this crisis, no responder seized the initiative to establish an incident command post,” it states. “Despite an obvious atmosphere of chaos, the ranking officers of other responding agencies did not approach the Uvalde CISD chief of police or anyone else perceived to be in command to point out the lack of and need for a command post, or to offer that specific assistance.”

Some individual officers acted without instruction to try to reach the shooter and might have been able to do so if they had more backup, according to the paper.

“Given the information known about victims who survived through the time of the breach and who later died on the way to the hospital, it is plausible that some victims could have survived if they had not had to wait 73 additional minutes for rescue,” the report reads.

A force of 376 law enforcement officers responded to the mass shooting, according to the House panel, which said that there wasn’t clear leadership as they responded.
