“This bill allows law enforcement to respond to active shooting situations more effectively. The bill prohibits the purchase, sale, or possession of military-grade body armor by anyone except certain authorized users, such as first-responders and law enforcement.”

Washington, D.C. – A new piece of legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives, H. R. 378, labeled the Responsible Body Armor Possession Act, which if enacted would deprive law abiding citizens of another means of self defense.

The legislation, forwarded by Rep. Mike Honda, would ban citizens from ownership of enhanced body armor, defined as “body armor, including a helmet or shield, the ballistic resistance of which meets or exceeds the ballistic performance of Type III armor, determined using National Institute of Justice Standard-0101.06” in the bill.

Level III and higher body armor can defeat most common rifle ammunition.

The body armor in question has a sole purpose of protecting the wearer from potential serious injury or death from being shot.

If passed, this bill would usurp people’s ability to own a truly defensive form of protection, with penalties for possession/ownership ranging from fines to jail time or both.

Cuz body armor can be used to harm LEOs? Color me skeptical, but I'm not convinced that a few peasants being somewhat resistant to bullets makes the job of the typical roid raging corporate security thug more difficult.

The political class fools in DC know they're heading for a mass hangin' ...and they're the guests of honor. There aren't enough scumbag LEOs to save their skins from the peasants, with or without kevlar.

We are in the specialty steel plate business. You should see the federal paperwork necessary to buy/sell armor plate.

We have decided to NEVER deal in ballistic plate due to the paperwork and necessary reporting, no matter the profit margin.

However, we have first hand knowledge of European producing mills selling thousands of tons to "unfriendly" middle Eastern countries with no problems. It's only a paperwork nightmare if this material is imported to the US first. Once it touches US soil, the mountain of paperwork and gov't approvals begin. No Thanks.

..so they're removing more means for the common man's defense. When are we going to get this swamp drained anyway?

Exactly!

When the congressional hypocrites hunker down in their fortified bunker, surrounded by cameras and armed guards, pulling edicts like this out of their collective arses, it just makes me want whatever they propose to ban.

It should also be banned for cops and politicians and movie stars.
