Took me about 3 years and multiple phone calls to finally get a truckload of chips from a local tree co. After that they brought about 5 more unsolicited. Hoping for more when the season picks up again. A lot of companies have to pay $$$ to dump the chips so are always looking for an empty lot to unload.
Wood chips can be used "raw" but it is better, in my opinion, to pile them up & let them age (rot) for a couple of years.
When you do that, I would suggest some kind of manure to hasten it & make it richer.
Also you can get mulching bins that will hasten the process.
