I am really wondering why some bars I see like those ugly Apmx Stackers with their logo blasted all over it and their website (that drives me nuts! The last thing I want on ANY of my bullion is a damn advertisement.)

In any case - I need to do some IRA restructuring and I have been stacking when possible.

So:
(This would be a private IRA not through a company)

1. What makes a bar IRA certifiable?
2. Can you still hold it or does it have to go to some odd escrow account?
3. How does interest accrue on it? Considering the price fluctuates daily.
4. Do I suffer the same penalties for withdrawing some metal as I do cash?

5. Any answers to ANY questions are greatly appreciated. Or if you have actually placed PMs in an IRA I would love to hear how it works.!#}]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]
Thank You!

Tag, also interested. Just guessing though and my bet would be the metals are not in your (or my) possession.

Yeah - I would tend to agree - but then who holds them? We need an IRA metal depositor here!

APMEX has some info on their website.

"Self-directed IRA (use retirement funds, metals held in a depository on your behalf" is what it says.

Doubtful we'd even get a chance to look at it, let alone hold it. Sure would be nice to take advantage of the tax thing though. Would provide other benefits for me a well. I started a thread recently about "traditional retirement accounts" and there were some really funny responses in there and full of good advice. May have to do something else anyway as to not put all the eggs in one basket.

You can't get there from here.

Some members here have self-directed IRAs in PMs. If you wait they should find there way into this thread.
I believe there is a way to hold it yourself, but I think it is complicated.

Not particularly difficult with Roth IRA and willingness to pay penalty/taxes.
Just before penalty was raised, my IRA balance went to zero, and my boat sank.
It was a heavy day.
Stay in the system, keep paying for the system.
