TAMPA, FL — On January 11, National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, Sheriff Chad Chronister announced the results of a month-long operation aimed at targeting and deterring human trafficking in Hillsborough County.
A total of 71 individuals were arrested during the course of the investigation dubbed “Operation Interception,” one of many proactive approaches the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has taken to combat human trafficking leading up to the Super Bowl coming to Tampa in February 2021.
“With less than a month until the big game, our covert operations continue, seeking those who choose to sexually exploit others here in our community,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our goal, as the operation name explains, is to ‘intercept’ individuals involved in sexual exploitation before they are able to take advantage of vulnerable individuals, and ultimately, to deter others.”
From December 7, 2020, through January 9, 2021, HCSO detectives worked undercover posting online ads offering to meet up and make themselves available to be purchased for sex. Female detectives posed as prostitutes on the streets. A total of 71 ‘Johns,’ or sex buyers, were arrested and charged with soliciting another to commit prostitution or entering/remaining in a place for prostitution. Some individuals received additional charges, including drug possession.

Sheriff Chronister said during Monday’s announcement, by continuing to conduct undercover operations targeting Johns, his hope is that both residents and visitors of Hillsborough County the week of the big game, including those traveling specifically to engage in human trafficking, will learn in advance that Hillsborough County has a zero-tolerance for such activity.
“Like any major sporting event, the Super Bowl should not be a venue where these types of crimes occur on the sidelines, whether it’s before, during, or after the game,” said Sheriff Chronister. “We know from past experiences with major sporting events that there will be some who travel for the exclusive purpose of taking advantage of women and children. I want to make it very clear, if you are planning to engage in the sexual exploitation of others, I’m urging you to think twice. We will find you, and you will be arrested.”

Former Catholic Archbishop of Adelaide Philip Wilson has died aged 70.

Archbishop of Brisbane Mark Coleridge said on Twitter that Emeritus Archbishop Wilson had died unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon.
In 2018, Emeritus Archbishop Wilson became the highest-ranking Catholic in the world to be convicted with concealing child sex abuse, over paedophile priest Jim Fletcher's crimes in the Hunter Valley in the 1970s.

That conviction led him to resign but it was later quashed on appeal, with a court finding there were doubts the archbishop had been told about the abuse.

The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference said Emeritus Archbishop Wilson had also served as the Bishop of Wollongong and as the president of the bishops' conference.

Church leaders paid tribute to Emeritus Archbishop Wilson, with Archbishop Coleridge saying he was "a true man of the Church and a good friend who suffered greatly".

Archbishop of Melbourne Peter Comensoli said it was "such a sad, sad moment".

"Yet our friend always longed for his eternal destiny in such faith and hope. May he be welcomed by the Lord," he wrote on Twitter.

In a statement, the Adelaide Archdiocese says while he'd suffered ill health, including cancer, his death this afternoon was sudden.

It says despite the court case, Emeritus Archbishop Wilson was an important figure in introducing reforms to help the church respond to child sexual abuse.

Archbishop Patrick O'Regan, who replaced Archbishop Wilson, said he was loved across the country and made major contributions to the church.

"A harrowing period of allegations, charges, conviction and eventually acquittal was a significant chapter on Philip's life, but his record of supporting and advocating on behalf of victims and survivors is part of his legacy," Archbishop O'Regan said.

He was found guilty and served four months of a 12-month sentence in home detention before his conviction was overturned, with a judge finding he was an honest and consistent witness and there were reasonable doubts that he had been told about the abuse.

At the time of the quashing, Fletcher's victims expressed disappointment at the decision.

Patricia Feenan, whose son Daniel was abused by Fletcher, said she hoped Emeritus Archbishop Wilson would never be reinstated as an archbishop.

"I hope the public of Australia have an opinion on that," she said.

"He didn't support us in any way at all, so I don't think anyone should support him."

A children’s book author and her husband have been arrested for allegedly abusing their three adoptive kids, sending one of them to the hospital with injuries, Florida authorities said.
Jennifer and Joseph Wolfthal each face aggravated child abuse and child neglect charges after authorities found their children were imprisoned and abused in their Casselberry home, WFTV reported.
Jennifer Wolfthal, 41, was arrested on New Year’s Day after her husband arrived at the hospital with one of the children. She was released but was arrested again on Tuesday and charged with false imprisonment.
The 8-year-old child was suffering from many conditions including pneumonia, a staph infection and liver failure. The child was also malnourished, had bruises, a skin infection and open wounds, according to an arrest report obtained by the outlet.
WESH reported the child was “critically ill” and that the mother told authorities the child’s injuries were a result from falling. The other two children were put in foster care, according to the outlet.
Jennifer Wolfthal, — who authored the book “A Real Friend” — and her 39-year-old husband allegedly locked their children in their rooms for days and weeks with no showers and little food, the arrest report states.
Joseph Wolfthal was arrested Monday and jailed on $210,000 bond while his wife was being held without bond.

It was an open secret but the Lincoln Project is acting like they had no idea Weaver was grooming young men, including underage teen boys.

“One of the most extraordinary things was how much of an open secret this was among the men Weaver commonly targeted — young, gay men interested in politics. Three men told me they’d described the harassment to a friend and the friend guessed it was Weaver,” NYT reporter Maggie Astor said.

Rumors of John Weaver’s years of grooming young men was circulating social media for the last few weeks, but the Lincoln Project could no longer ignore the allegations once the New York Times published their report.

“John Weaver led a secret life that was built on a foundation of deception at every level. He is a predator, a liar, and an abuser. We extend our deepest sympathies to those who were targeted by his deplorable and predatory behavior. We are disgusted and outraged that someone in a position of power and trust would use it for these means,” the Lincoln Project said in a statement Sunday morning.

The Lincoln Project claimed they are “absolutely shocked and sickened” by Weaver’s behavior.

Senior Anti-Marjorie Greene Republican Staffer Arrested for Running Pedophile Ring

A senior anti-Marjorie Greene Republican staffer was arrested on Friday by D.C. police for operating a massive pedophile ring.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, 27 year-old Ruben Verastigui, of Northeast, DC, was arrested on Friday and charged with Distribution of Child Pornography, which included sickening videos of babies being raped.

Per their statement:

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Youth and Family Services Division, Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, the Northern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and Homeland Security Investigations announce an arrest has been made in a Distribution of Child Pornography offense that occurred in Washington, DC.
Between March 2020 and February 2021, an investigation revealed the suspect distributed, received and possessed images of child pornography.
On Friday, February 5, 2021, 27 year-old Ruben Verastigui, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Distribution of Child Pornography.​

Ruben A. Verastigui, is currently Communications Manager at Citizens For Responsible Energy Solutions Former Senior Digital Strategist for Senate Republicans and RNC.

His last tweet, just hours before his arrest for distribution of child porn, cheered the 11 Republican Congressmen who voted to remove Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from committees.

Reuben Verastigui said in a group chat that he liked images of babies being sexually abused. “Babies are some of my biggest turn ons” he said.

“I have been wanting to see videos of guys hardcore raping a baby,” he added.

“when a baby screams it’s my favorite.”

Verastigui also requested that someone join him in D.C. to sexually abuse a minor.

Verastigui was also very active in the pro-life movement.

He worked at multiple pro-life organizations & spoke at the March for Life in 2013.

FBI agent killed, 4 wounded while serving warrant in FL

At least one FBI agent, possibly two, were killed and three others injured Tuesday while attempting to serve a warrant in Florida.

The Miami Herald reported that one source familiar with the shooting said a minimum of five FBI agents were shot at a Sunrise home, with two being “gravely wounded.”

According to police, a man suspected of having child pornography had barricaded himself in his home on Reflections Boulevard. The incident shut down traffic on Nob Hill Road around 6 a.m. after the shooting.

“*Alert* There is currently heavy police presence in the area of 4200 Nob Hill Rd. Nob Hill Rd is closed from NW 44th St to West Oakland Park Blvd in both directions. Please use an alternate route,” Sunrise Police Florida tweeted, later requesting that local residents remain in their homes.

Jaco Booyens, the founder of SHAREtogether, said former President Donald Trump’s efforts to create an office dedicated to fighting sex trafficking made an “incredible impact” over the last four years.
SHAREtogether is a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating child sex trafficking.
Booyens was interviewed by NTD on Friday and asked to expound on the big sex trafficking bust that occurred in California this week.
Sixty-four people were arrested and two women were rescued in an anti-human trafficking sting in California’s Riverside County.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said the arrests were part of Operation Reclaim and Rebuild, an annual statewide operation. The sting “ran for four consecutive days before concluding on January 28, 2021,” the department said on Tuesday.

“It’s a big orchestration, to execute a sting or a bust, like what we’ve just seen in California, and it takes months and months of planning and funding. And that’s why it’s very important for both local and federal, local, state, and federal government to support the fight against sex trafficking, because you cannot do it on your own,” Booyens said.

He noted that for these operations to succeed, they need to be able to be conducted in a way that they can have standing in court, and some connections between the judicial system and the police have to exist.
Booyens said that before Trump “we’ve never had an office in the White House designated and dedicated to fighting sex trafficking. No former president in the history of this country has used his or her platform to denounce the exploitation of children and then appropriate funding. So we’ve seen an incredible impact over the years, over the last four years, particularly towards the support for law enforcement.”

Regular police officers, he said, are not trained to investigate, profile, or conduct a sting operation. It requires special training and a lot of resources and effort.

“We’ve seen a tremendous rise in the apprehension, the arrest of perpetrators and rescue of victims under the Trump administration, no question about it,” Booyens said. “In these cases that you’re seeing now such as California, and you’ll see some others coming out now, they’ve been 9, 10 months in the making under the Trump administration—in that mechanism of funding law enforcement appropriately, having special task forces.”
He said that since the new Biden administration has only been in office for one month, the situation in this regard remains to be seen.
“Whether those policies and systems that were put in place, whether they will remain or not, we don’t know,” said Booyens.

“But under the Trump administration, we saw a massive and also a morale lift. There was a morale lift within the nonprofits, our organization and the other 170 that we’re connected with, there was a general morale boost. We have support from the White House now. We actually now can see law enforcement departments talk to one another.'”

Booyens explained that the type of interdepartmental communication necessary to track down child predators was seen for the first time during the Trump administration.
“For instance, when a child is tracked in let’s say, Dallas, Texas, that pimp or predator doesn’t keep that child in Dallas, Texas.” Booyens said. “Now let’s say we find her in Nevada. You now are asking the Dallas Police Department to talk to the Nevada police department and that historically has not happened.

“We saw that kind of an inter-department communication line be open because of the result of Ivanka Trump, President Trump, and then, of course, the other people in that administration who made trafficking a focus.”
Booyens also noted that operations to combat sex trafficking still don’t have the resources they need, adding that the current state of the crime is now at its highest peak due to children spending more time online because of COVID-19.
Another alarming trend related to the escalation of this type of criminal activity is that there is a portion of society that promotes the sexualization of children.
“There is a large sector of our society, let’s just be real, that don’t see a problem with sexualizing children, with indoctrinating children in kindergarten with certain conditions and mindsets about sex and consent,” Booyens said.

“We’ve got multiple states in this country at the moment trying to lower their age of consent to 14, some have lowered it to 16. … Laws in those states are now in direct contradiction to statutory rape or in direct contradiction to the anti-sex-trafficking law in that state which says a child 17 and under is a victim.”
He concluded by saying that the children need to be taught to recognize suspicious behavior and that parents need to be genuinely involved with the different communities, video games, or online activities their children are engaged with in order to prevent others from introducing predatorial information to them.
Booyens was also interviewed by American Thought Leaders in January.

‘Independent Mail’ reports that a four-year-old international investigation resulted in identifying 30,000 customers of child pornography in 132 countries. Many of the images were uploaded from Ukraine and Belarus. Authorities from these countries cooperated with American, Canadian and other European authorities to close down 230 websites and dismantle the child porn operation.

450 people arrested, 39 victims rescued during statewide anti-human trafficking operation: L.A. officials

Authorities made hundreds of arrests and rescued dozens of adult and juvenile victims during an annual statewide operation to combat human trafficking, Los Angeles law enforcement agencies announced Thursday.
More than 100 federal, state and local agencies, and task forces participated in “Operation Reclaim and Rebuild” across California, between Jan. 26 and Feb. 1, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The statewide effort resulted in 450 people arrested, 51 of which were for an alleged felony crime. During the weeklong operation, 39 victims were rescued, including 13 children.
Those figures were announced during a joint news conference late Thursday morning involving LAPD, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, among others.
Officials emphasized that the number of arrests and rescues during the operation represent just a fraction of the total made during the year.
“There are still operations that take place 365 days out of the year as well,” L.A. sheriff’s Capt. Michael Hannemann said.
The captain recounted several cases from the most recent operation.
There was one from Jan. 26, when a missing 15-year-old girl from Nevada was rescued after investigators with the San Luis Obispo County’s counter-human trafficking answered an online sex advertisement and arranged a meetup. Authorities were also able to apprehend her suspected trafficker following a brief pursuit, according to Hannemann.
That same day, LAPD vice officers rescued three young female individuals after seeing them “engaging in possible commercial sex activity” near 76th and Figueroa streets, in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood of South Los Angeles, the captain said.
A vehicle approached them and the three drove away. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and officers detained three males and the three females, two of whom were underage, according to Hannemann. Investigators determined that one of the men had been trafficking the females, leading to his arrest.
And on Jan. 28, investigators with the Sacramento and Elk Grove police departments were working on an operation focusing on child molesters and trafficking when they discovered a sex ad involving a 21-year-old. The woman was known from a previous case to have been developmentally disabled, Hannemann said.
Detectives set up a date to meet with the victim, hoping she’d be dropped off by her exploiter. That led to the 21-year-old being rescued and taken to a safe house, and the arrest of a female suspect on suspicion of human trafficking, according to the captain.
Authorities did not release the names of any of the arrestees in those incidents.
In L.A. County, there wasn’t a decline in commercial sex activity, even with the COVID-19 pandemic that spurred a series of stay-at-home orders.
“’While the pandemic has kept many of us at home with our families, the brutal reality is that commercial sex has continued over the last year,” said Deputy District Attorney Guillermo Santiso, the supervising attorney for the DA’s human sex trafficking section.
He noted that even though the number of cases filed appeared to be lower in 2020, that was not necessarily an indicator that commercial sex activity declined.
“Based on my experience, it has increased,” Santiso said. “And resources have been diverted due to civil unrest and the pandemic that caused there to be this decrease in the filings.”
Cases were on the rise the year prior in California, according to figures from the National Human Trafficking Hotline.
In 2019 — when its numbers were last updated — the hotline estimated at least 1,500 cases were reported in the state of California. That was nearly double the number of cases for the previous year.
“California is one of the largest sites of human trafficking in our country, with Los Angeles still a hotbed of activity,” L.A. City Councilman John Lee said during Thursday’s briefing. “Now criminal street gangs have gotten involved because it’s become more lucrative than trafficking weapons and drugs.”
Last year, “Operation Reclaim and Rebuild” netted 518 arrests and the rescue of 87 victims across the state; in 2019, the same operation resulted in 337 arrests and 48 rescues.
And earlier this week, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department announced that an anti-trafficking operation there resulted in 64 arrests and two victims rescued.
