Barbra Dawson age 57 was arrested and died in police custody after refusing to leave an emergency room, she thought she was sick, turns out she was right. Google has plenty of cases where emergency rooms refuse treatment to poor people and they later die. When I get back to my home computer, I'll dig up more cases.
Don't bother if you are doing it "for me".
I know, people are dying all over in the streets due to lack of national health care. I have heard it all before.
Why do you think health insurance premiums skyrocketed after Obamao care?
Did the woman die because she didn't have health insurance or they didn't think she was sick?
There is a difference you know. Or is that too deep for you on this subject?
Obamao's partner had the job at a hospital in Chicago diverting free ER customers to the County Hospital. They thought putting a black face on it would make it better. Not refused care, just routed to the appropriate hospital.
As a person who was refused emergency care at a Chicago area hospital in the 1970s because I didn't know what the insurance company was my employer had, I know it used to happen. I think it is pretty fucking rare now, seeing as they can be sued if they refuse care.
If you’re in the emergency room, you’re probably too injured to haggle with hospital administrators about how you’re going to pay for your care — especially if you don’t have health insurance. Fortunately, in 1986, Congress passed the Emergency Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) that prohibits a practice commonly known as “patient dumping.”
The act gives individuals the right to emergency care regardless of their ability to pay. EMTALA was enacted as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA).
Is the Reason for Refusing to Admit or Treat a Patient Important?
In some cases, it may be important to understand the reason as to why a hospital refused to admit or denied treatment to a patient.
For instance, if a doctor employed by the hospital uses their professional medical expertise to decide that a patient’s condition doesn’t require treatment, which in turn, results in a refusal for treatment, then a court will likely consider this a reasonable excuse to do so. In which case, the hospital will not be found liable.
p.s. This is not a personal attack Fatrat, I respect your opinion on many issues, and I respect you, however, I think you are confused on this issue.
Automagically, every person here who is on the dole gets medicaid. Illegal aliens get treatment. REALITY. I know it sucks, but it is what it is. Do they get the finest of health care, do they get to choose their provider and treatments, most likely not. I have several (3) forms of insurance and I don't get the finest of health care nor do I get to pick and chose providers and treatments. If I tell them I am sick and they don't treat me because they can't find something wrong, I have little recourse except to try to get to another facility and get alternate care. If I make a scene and refuse to leave, I would suspect I would be booted out, insurance or no insurance, poor or rich. REALITY.
Sadly, this doesn't seem to apply to working poor they fall thru the cracks, and if the hospital doesn't believe that you will die in the next 24 hours they DO kick people to the curb. I guess we will disagree.
