Of course this will be highly opinionated but THAT is what it is all about.
ORIGINAL :
HURT - Nine Inch Nails:

COVER of HURT by Johnny Cash ( the re-engineered version of this for LOGAN is even better - IMO):

There's this. Was quite surprised by how good it is. Worth a listen even if one isn't quite down with the sickness. lol

If you think there is a cover better than a commercially produced or just an original record put it up for our listening enjoyment and consideration. gb

Ok. Here's a couple by Leo Moraccohioli a/k/a The King of Covers. Dude literally makes thousands per video. Works out of his home studio in Norway.
Might not be everyones cup o' tea, but I certainly like his stuff.

Eye of the Tiger by Survivor

Eye of the Tiger by Leo.

Californication, by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Californication by Leo. Filmed at the NAMM show in LA

I like both of these equally well but the GnR version has better sound. Raunchiest lyrics I think I've ever heard.

Leo has some epic covers. Love his metal versions of all the teen queens like Taylor swift, lorde, Adele etc.

Others... Metallica turn the page

5 finger death punch bad company

Disturbed land of confusion

Rob zombie we're an American band and brick house

Only God knows how many others before them (it IS an old Irish folk song after all) but none better than Metallica's version....

That Joan Baez version hurt my ears. Zepplin took a lot of influence from others but I didn't know Babe I'm Going To Leave You was one of them.

Steven Tyler hates rock in a hard place. Despite the fact that you can hardly understand a word he says in the lude induced howling I think it's the best album he ever did. Again, I like both of these versions. This song has been covered 1000 times but Tyler emotes the best

I really like Al Green but the Talking Heads did a better to my ears version of Take me to the river. Maybe it's the horns on Al's version, I find them irritating.

"I Fought the Law" by Sonny Curtis, written in 1958 and recorded by The Crickets in 1959, it never got any airplay. Sonny replaced Buddy Holly on guitar after his death, vocals were by Earl Sink. There are many, many covers of this song, too many to mention or include all. I have included some notable covers.

Bobby Fuller Four definitive cover version. Bobby was found dead in his car 6 months after the song release from asphyxiation in his mother's car near his apartment. Cops called it a suicide but friends claimed it was murder. He was 23 years old at the time of his death. I call this "better" than The Crickets original.

Finally my personal favorite version from the Clash movie "Rude Boy". They first heard the song in a recording studio in San Francisco, they learned it then and there, this is the result. On July 26, 1979, "I Fought the Law" was the first single by the band to be released in the United States. During Operation Just Cause in Panama it was one of the songs played to drive Noriega out of the Papal Nunciatura. I was on the other side of the country and did not request this song be played, however, if I had a phone to call it in I would have.

Green Day version. Cover of the Clash version IMHO.

Finally the Dead Kennedys version, re-written from the killer's perspective [Milk murder in San Francisco - Twinkie Defense].
