UN may ‘run out of money by Oct end’, says Antonio Guterres in letter to 37,000 employees

The United Nations (UN) is running a deficit of $230 million, Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on Monday, and may run out of money by the end of October.

In a letter intended for the 37,000 employees at the UN secretariat and obtained by AFP, Guterres said unspecified “additional stop-gap measures” would have to be taken to ensure salaries and entitlements are paid.

“Member States have paid only 70 per cent of the total amount needed for our regular budget operations in 2019. This translates into a cash shortage of $230 million at the end of September. We run the risk of depleting our backup liquidity reserves by the end of the month,” he wrote.

To cut costs, Guterres mentioned postponing conferences and meetings and reducing services, while also restricting official travel to only essential activities and taking measures to save energy.

Guterres had asked member states earlier this year to up contributions to the world body to head off cash flow problems, but they refused, a UN official said on condition of anonymity.

Good.

Let Trump turn that waste of NYC real estate into tax producing property.

Yep, this is it folks ...the UN is folding up shop. OMG!!! WHAT DO WE DO???

It’s official folks. With this turd of a headline we’ve now surpassed the national enquirer in the buffoonery department.

You gotta be a king size meatball to think that the 230 million for party supplies, scones and lox isn’t already in the mail.

Is this why theyve been pushing so hard for carbon taxes? They need a new source of funding.

looking at it a bit sideways,

if they cannot get the funding from the member states,
doesn't that prove the members see little value received for dough contributed?
as in not worth the price of admission?

question can be asked,
what does the UN do that is of such import that justifies their existence in todays environment?

giving a voice to countries that otherwise would be left out ?
providing relief to people around the world?

is there any proof of such activity, and what is the cost?
is the cost of a loaf of bread a cool $1M all in?

etc.

You can't talk it away. You must kill it to stop it!

That's the way it's always been throughout history and this time its no different!

Bring in Tony "The Gut" to say, "Only hourly-wage employees will be paid until all countries have coughed up the vigorish."

Here I fixed it for both of you (grammatically):
"It's run its course".
"Socialism has runs its course".

Yeah, I screw it up too, sometimes.
The reason folks get mixed up is because:

"it's" can mean, "it has" as in: "It's been a while..." It has been a while...

"it's" can also mean, "it is" as in: "It's the way I roll..." That is the way I roll...

"Its" means ownership as in: "The rabbit's cage is its home." <-- This is where folks get lost -- the fargin rabbit gets a fargin catastrophe to show ownership, while in the same sentence, the correct use of "its" is... umm... "its" with no catastrophe.

Go figger. :don't know:

Now yer in a game we play endlessly at the Chateau: I just had an apostrophe... umm... epistle... umm... Ah -- epiphany...

All I had to do was call out: "Use 'apostrophy' in a sentence."

Herself ricochets: "I just had an apostrophy about your incorrect and bazaar use of 'sentience'. "

I believe The Hague, Netherlands is the back up site for the United Nations if NYC is no longer "viable" due to war, plague, etc. The international court is also headquartered there.

I'd love to see some closed totalitarian country host the UN since they seem to favor such regimes. China would make sense but I think they'd get the biggest bank for their stolen bucks with a HQ somewhere in Africa. Plus, if the UN apparatchiks don't like thier neighbors in Africa, just wait 15 minutes and they'll have new ones if they don't mind the smoke and noise.

The logical place would be "neutral" Switzerland.

They can build some bunkers under the Alps, and no one would ever hear from them.

At some point - I think it would make sense for them to relocate to Jerusalem and make it an international city...

That will probably happen right after the antichrist takes charge...

I guess they'll just have to go out of business. bb
Just make sure all people who worked there are sent home or have an airline ticket (and have 24 hrs to use it or go straight to prison) to get back to the country they came from.
