I'm not sure IOS8 will be good for Apple's business. I'm unlocked and on IOS5 now; I won't be upgrading. My next device will be android.

The more 'business friendly' and 'advertising friendly' they make the iPhone, the more rapidly they will lose their customer base. I chose not to upgrade to IOS6 because of the integrated advertising. No IOS7 because they locked down even more of the system AND introduced a significant performance hit to anyone upgrading an old phone. Anyone playing with the latest droid can see it's far surpassed the iPhone already. I wouldn't be surprised if the hacking community starts walking from the platform. Droids are simply much more versatile. iPhone has morphed from the techy tool to become your grandpa's phone. And that's not good for business.

What to Expect From Windows 9 - What’s New Now

A number of sources have suggested that Microsoft will give Windows 9 away for free for current Windows 8 users. The upgrade would work the same way Apple OSX updates do. Giving Windows away for free is completely antithetical to Microsoft’s corporate culture and history--but it could be absolutely essential to its future. Microsoft is skipping ahead from Windows 8 to 10. How much substance is behind this new name?

Microsoft says "nein!" to nine and jumps to Windows 10. Software analyst Jill Duffy questions whether breaking the naming and numbering cycle is a distraction technique, or really and truly emblematic of Microsoft pushing forward for greatness with Windows, after the debacle of Windows 8, er, 8.1. Windows 10 does get a few things right that Windows 8 got wrong, and Microsoft seems to be getting back into its groove as a company that's focused on business users.

And check out these five reasons you'll want Windows 10: http://goo.gl/Noo5LW

Why Neflix Is Charging $3 More for 4K - What's New Now

Netflix was one of the first companies to provide 4K video streams, but now those streams are going to cost a few extra bucks. Netflix is charging users an extra $3 a month for access to its 4K library.

An extra $3 a month seems like a small price to pay for 4K, which literally has 4 times as much detail as a standard HD signal. The thing is, that 4K signal comes with some serious caveats.

Dropbox however states that it was not hacked and that your stuff is still safe, as the credentials that were posted online were stolen from unrelated services.

Only thing folks forget is that Apple stuff works.

Buy anything else if you like to tinker, but if you have no clue about computers, stick with Apple.

I always say, if your car ran like a PC, you'd sell it.

I bought a MacBook Air. Battery lasts 10 to 12 hours no problem!

Also came with a suite of programs that compare to msOffice
Came with Garage Band as well, which is really great if you want to multi track record stuff.
Came with a photo booth and photo manipulation software and a bunch more stuff I can't remember.

but if I was to gush about it, I'd have to say that you'll NEVER need to look for and find a driver for anything and software updates are seamless.

If you have ever had to do that for a PC, it can take hours for some of the obscure vendor stuff.

That said, I work on PC's, it's why I have a job. If we had Apple stuff, I'd be looking for a job.

I like Apple products due to the higher degree of quality from my experience. The laptops are better than cheaper HP/Dell/Asus that I have had experience with. OSX is a better OS than Windows in every way. The other benefit of Apple products is that they maintain their value well so that if you want to upgrade in 2-3 years you can usually get a bit of your money back to put towards the purchase of a newer model. Things use to be much better before in terms of resale value, but aren't bad now either.

New iPads and iPad minis are hitting store shelves, and that news is rather inconveniently dovetailing with a recent earnings call from Apple in which the company said iPad sales were lower than expected last quarter. Investors are none too pleased, but is that because they have unrealistic expectations for a market that is less than five years old?

Microsoft Up, Amazon Down - What's New Now

Amazon and Microsoft both failed in phones this year. We found that out yesterday when both companies reported their quarterly earnings. Amazon had to write down 100 and 70 million dollars worth of unsold Fire Phones, which smacks of Microsoft’s Kin phone disaster a few years ago. Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablet sales are up, but Windows Phone is still struggling along under 5% market share in the U.S.

Amazon has announced a new streaming media device called Amazon Fire TV Stick. It's a USB stick that looks like the Google Chromecast but works more like a Roku, so instead of "casting" or "flinging" what's on your computer screen to your TV, the Fire TV Stick will tap into Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime of course, and other apps that work on with smart TVs and other streaming devices. And it's going to be cheap - real cheap.

I moved to Android simply because some of the apps that I needed to use were banned by Apple. Looking to the future, I think that the smartphone, tablet, and computer market are going to move to integrated products. We see this with Apple showing the capability of controlling the phone with the computer. I used to think this was hot air but but having the ability to play movies that I captured on my phone is really cool.

There are pros and cons to all systems. Finding the one that works best for you is the tough part.

Computers & phones have become too complex. I studied computers & business in the 80s before graphic interface & decided not to pursue a career in it because of the complexity even though I was good at it. I stayed away from computers for as long as I could. When it started to become necessary, I bought an iMac at the advice of a friend. I didn't even know that there were different operating systems & thought I was just buying a high quality computer.

I threw myself into it & took classes & learned some windows due to programs like auto cad etc only running on windows. A friend bought me the first iPhone as a gift & I have stuck with Apple products mostly because of the huge learning curve required to learn a new system. I do use windows on a bootcamp partition on my Mac & use it to play games etc but can't imagine having to get up to speed to use it on a daily basis. Same with phones (Android etc).

I am perplexed enough trying to keep up with how to make my Apple products work well & understand the myriad settings & preferences & how to diagnose & repair malfunctions, especially after each update. For example; I recently missed my Nephews Birthday & a car safety inspection deadline because my notifications weren't functioning properly. I am currently wasting time trying to figure out why a search for older & original events in my calendar only shows recent events. How can we continue to depend on these things? Time bandits they are. Rant off!

We see this with Apple showing the capability of controlling the phone with the computer. I used to think this was hot air but but having the ability to play movies that I captured on my phone is really cool.

There are pros and cons to all systems. Finding the one that works best for you is the tough part.

Google has just released its new fitness app, aptly named Google Fit, which the company first announced a few months ago at the Google i/o conference.

Google Fit is an app that taps into the sensors on your Android phone to automatically detect when you're walking, running, and bicycling. You can set a daily goal and watch in real time how close you are to meeting it.

Wow, I wonder how much Google paid Samsung for the fitness software? I guess if people use it then it's a good thing.
